Organizers and Communications

Meaza Ogbe, Director of Organizing

Support collective bargainingMeaza has been a member of Local 174 since 2008, when she worked as an International organizer on the Port campaign. During that time, she helped to organized one of the first strikes against the Port of Seattle. She comes from a family rooted in Union principles. Her father recently retired from the Seafarer’s International Union, the job he had while providing for her and her brothers and sisters. A quote that was common around her home growing up was “Everyone knows you don’t go to court without a lawyer, but you would be even crazier to go to work without a Union.” Throughout her tenure at the IBT, Meaza worked on campaigns all over the country, but nothing fills her with more pride than coming home and organizing for her home Local, Local 174, the most militant and solid local in the Teamsters.

Jamie Fleming, Director of Communications and Research

Jamie graduated from Georgetown University in 2007 with a degree in Finance and International Business. She immediately went to work for the IBT headquarters in Washington, DC as a Financial Analyst. In 2012, she moved to the Seattle area and continued in her role as a Teamster financial analyst, but began working out of an office in Local 174. After four years as the “stepchild” of the Local, Jamie was officially adopted into the Local 174 family in January of 2017.

Her role as Director of Communications and Research includes being the webmaster of www.teamsters174.net, writing content for the site, taking pictures, running the Local 174 Facebook page, and designing and producing the Local’s flyers and communications with the membership. She also continues to perform some research in the same capacity as she did as an IBT Financial Analyst. She speaks English, French, and Mandarin Chinese. She is extremely excited to have the privilege of helping Local 174 connect with its membership.
