Local 174 Senior Business Agent/Recording Secretary Carl Gasca and Local 174 Safeway driver Ben Narayan prepare to leave for Puerto Rico. Good luck, Brothers!

Local 174 member Ben Narayan out of Safeway and Senior Business Agent and Recording Secretary Carl Gasca are leaving today for Puerto Rico, via Newark, NJ with a large group of Teamsters from across the country. They will be putting their Class A CDL and longshore skills to work helping to clean up and rebuild after Hurricane Maria devastated the island.

We at Local 174 are so incredibly proud of our Brothers for volunteering for this difficult and likely unpleasant but critically important mission. The Teamsters Union exists to help people — whether that be working people who are being mistreated on the job, or our Brothers and Sisters in distant lands who are on the receiving end of a tremendous bout of ill fortune.

We wish Carl and Ben a safe trip, and we know that they will represent Local 174 with pride as they help their fellow humans to rebuild their lives after this natural disaster.

Meanwhile, if others are interested in volunteering for future trips to Puerto Rico — as we expect there will be many waves of Teamsters sent down to help out — please either contact your Business Agent or Communications Director Jamie Fleming at jfleming@teamsters174.org.

We will be keeping you all as up-to-date as possible on how things are going for Carl and Ben, and what it looks like when a big group of Teamsters from all over the country all works together! I have a feeling it will be an inspiring sight to behold.
