2020 Cavano Scholarship Application
GEORGE CAVANO ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIP
The purpose of this essay contest is to award up to ten (10) scholarships for attending an accredited public or private University, Community College, Vocational or Technical School anywhere in the United States. The amount of the scholarships will range from $500-$2500, depending on the strength of application, written essay and the costs associated with the program.
REQUIREMENTS AND ELIGIBILTY CRITERIA
1. Applicants must be the son, daughter, grandchild, or legal dependent of an active, retired, disabled, deceased or laid-off Teamster who has or had at least twelve months of consecutive membership in good standing in Teamsters Local 174.
2. Applicants must be graduating high school seniors for the current year.
3. Applicants must currently have a minimum of a 2.5 cumulative grade point average (GPA) beginning with 9th grade to most recent. A copy of the grade transcript to support the claim of a 2.5 cumulative (GPA) must accompany the application.
4. All applications must be completed in full and accompanied by a written essay of 500 words or less on the subject designated by the Local 174 Scholarship Committee.
5. Essays should be submitted on 8.5” x 11” paper, typed and double spaced, with applicant’s written signature at the conclusion of the essay.
6. Applications are available at the Teamsters Local 174 office and online here.
7. Completed applications may be hand delivered, sent by certified, registered USPS mail or UPS to Teamsters Local 174 George Cavano Annual Scholarship Fund, 14675 Interurban Ave S Suite 303, Tukwila, WA 98168. Applications must be received no later than April 17, 2020. Any application received after that date will not be considered.
8. The Scholarship Committee will review applications to assure that all eligibility criteria and requirements have been followed and met.
9. Failure on the part of the applicant to meet the rules may subject the applicant to disqualification by the Committee. If disqualified, the decision of the Scholarship Committee shall be final.
10. Each essay will be reviewed and scored by at least three readers from The George Cavano Annual Scholarship Essay Review Committee. Family members of current applicants are not eligible to be members of the selected committee.
11. The George Cavano Annual Scholarship Essay Review Committee will be selected by the current Board of Directors prior to the application deadline.
12. Scholarships will be awarded after recipient provides proof of registration to an accredited public or private University, Community College, Vocational or Technical School.
13. Children and or grandchildren of full-time representatives, organizers and officers are considered ineligible for any and all scholarships awarded by Teamsters Local 174 George Cavano Annual Scholarship Fund.
14. Winners will be notified by the current Local 174 Executive Board no later than June 15th of each year.
15. The above dates are subject to change with approval from the Board of Directors.
