Boeing Teamsters at Local 174 Ratify Historic Contract

Contract Guarantees Four Years of Major Improvements

Over the weekend, nearly 300 Teamster drivers working for The Boeing Company voted overwhelmingly to ratify a contract that materially surpasses all previous contracts for the group. The new Agreement, which not only makes major language improvements but also guarantees economic victories that raise the bar for the rest of the industry, comes on the heels of labor disputes between Boeing and the International Association of Firefighters and the International Association of Machinists. Contrary to those negotiations, bargaining with the Teamsters took an entirely different tone, and the resulting Agreement will protect and reward Boeing Teamsters for years to come.

Contract improvements addressed nearly every problem workers had identified before negotiations. Some of the biggest issues solved include: addressing retirement security for the first time in decades, strengthening protections against subcontracting Teamster work to other groups, adding picket line language to allow Boeing Teamsters to honor picket lines at other companies, improving Seniority protections, and solving issues workers had with acquiring their DOT cards by giving workers the choice to visit their own DOT-certified doctor. Improvements on the economic side were just as substantial, with more vacations and holidays added, lowering family healthcare costs, and wage increases that will be the envy of the industry. As the contract proposal was presented, the room erupted in cheers on more than one occasion, and the final vote tally was overwhelming.

“When these negotiations began, we were prepared to face the same adversarial bargaining relationship Boeing had taken with other unionized groups, but instead we were pleased to discover this management team was committed to rewarding the hardworking drivers who keep Boeing running,” said Teamsters Local 174 Secretary-Treasurer Rick Hicks. “Boeing drivers are the consummate professionals and with this contract, their managers finally recognized and rewarded that. This contract will make an immediate difference in our members’ lives as well as serving as a strong building block for future growth. This is a victory for both sides, and our members look forward to demonstrating their value as Teamster professionals every single day.”

“We appreciate the discussions and the Company’s willingness to address our members’ needs and priorities,” said 46-year Teamster Donny Jones, who also served on the Bargaining Committee.  “It shows that a collaborative culture where both parties strive to find meaningful solutions can result in a positive outcome for all.”

April 18 Update: BOEING TENTATIVE AGREEMENT REACHED

April 15 Boeing Negotiations Update

Thank you everyone for the patience as we work through this negotiation. After two long days to start of the week, negotiations continue to move forward as we have delved into economics. The Union and the Company have exchanged over 100 individual total proposals covering language and economics. Our negotiating file at this point is about as thick as the first novel of War and Peace. Your negotiating team has been committed to making sure we address all the concerns that came up in the demands meeting. The next couple of days are going to be long hours as we do everything in our power to bring you back a contract to vote this Saturday.

In solidarity,

Your duly elected Bargaining Committee

April 11 Boeing Negotiations Update: Day 3

Boeing negotiation update #2

We have just finished up our first week of negotiations with the Boeing Company. The negotiations have been efficient and productive. We made proposals to address all language issues brought forth in the demands meeting. We have the vast majority of the language done and have reached 12 tentative agreements that make meaningful improvements in your Collective Bargaining Agreement. We will be back with the company in negotiations next week to address the rest of the language issues that remain open. We also will start negotiating over the economic provisions in your contract at that time. Again, we will continue to keep everyone updated every couple days at a minimum.

Also we want to make sure everyone understands in order to vote this upcoming Saturday April 19th, 2025 (Meeting 9am start time) you need to be in good standing on your dues. You cannot be on withdrawal status or be behind on your dues. This is not intended to keep members from voting, but this rule is enshrined in the IBT constitution and the Local Union bylaws. If you have any questions about your dues status, please call the Local Union at 206-441-6060 and ask for a dues clerk. If you show up Saturday on the 19th to pay your dues before the meeting starts, we cannot take your payment at that time. You must have your dues paid up by the end of business Friday April 18th, 2025.

In solidarity,

Your duly elected Bargaining Committee

April 9 Boeing Negotiations Update: Day 1

First day of negotiations went well. The Company and the Union kicked things off at 12pm with opening remarks. Senior Vice President of Global Supply Chain and Fabrication for Boeing Commercial airplanes Ihssane Mounir made opening remarks for the company. International Brotherhood of Teamsters Western Region Vice President, Joint Council 28 President and Secretary-Treasurer of Local 174 Rick Hicks made opening remarks for the Union. The meeting was positive.

The Union passed our initial language proposal to the company covering the issues brought forth in the demands, addressing a wide range of topics including but not limited to bidding, vacation, holidays and jurisdiction. The company plans on responding to our proposal tomorrow. Once we are done with the language issues we will move to economics. As the Union and your bargaining team committed, we will do our best to keep everyone updated on our progress every couple of bargaining sessions at a minimum.

In Solidarity,

Teamsters Local 174 Bargaining Team.

What is our current status with Boeing? You all had an extremely well-attended Demands Meeting where you elected a Bargaining Committee and laid out what you expect to see in a new contract. Bargaining Committee Members: Jared Nelson, Donnie Jones, Chad Schlotfeldt, Robert Bradley, and Jimmy McLellan.

Your Bargaining Committee has already met with us here at Local 174 to put together a first proposal to pass across the table. Our first bargaining session with the Company will take place April 9, and negotiations will continue daily until April 18.

On April 19, there will be a vote here at the Union hall. Our hope is that we will have a complete contract proposal to recommend that you ratify. If the Company delays and we do not have a fully-recommended offer by then, we will instead be voting to authorize a strike. PLEASE STAY TUNED FOR MORE INFORMATION AND A PAPER FLYER ANNOUNCING THIS.

Once negotiations begin, we expect to put out updates either daily or every other day, depending on how things are going at the table.
