Waste Management Seattle alumnus will help our growing Sanitation division
The Teamsters Local 174 family is growing again, this time with the addition of a Sanitation Business Agent to the team. Longinue Shipp has spent the last 15+ years working for Waste Management Seattle, and now will make the step to become a Local 174 Business Agent helping to enforce our contracts throughout that industry.
Longinue moved to the area and started with Waste Management in 2005. He worked his way up and joined Teamsters Local 174 after six months, and since then has been active and engaged with his Teamster Brothers and Sisters as a trainer, a lead, a Shop Steward, and Safety Committee Chair. He was also elected to the rank-and-file Bargaining Committee to help negotiate the 2019 Waste Management contract, which was a historic Master Agreement that brought together all Waste Management locations in Local 174 and 231 under one contract.
Longinue is extremely excited to join our family and learn from Sanitation Industry Business Agents Ken Marshall and Brett Lohrman. He has always been passionate about making sure everyone is treated fairly and feels valued, and is especially dedicated to his coworkers’ wellbeing now after living through the COVID-19 pandemic as an “Essential Services” worker.
“Our membership in Sanitation has been growing, and our contracts in that industry are some of the best in the nation, so it makes sense to add another Business Agent to that jurisdiction to keep holding management’s feet to the fire,” said Teamsters Local 174 Secretary-Treasurer Rick Hicks. “Longinue Shipp is the perfect man for the job: he is dedicated, passionate, and ready to step up and learn from the best. We look forward to watching him grow as a leader and an advocate for working people!”
