Local 174 is pleased to announce the newest member of our Executive Board: Mark Hislop, a second-generation, 32-year Teamster from the sand & gravel industry.
Hislop, who drives a concrete mixer truck for CalPortland, has been an incredible asset to Local 174 throughout his Teamster career as a steward/activist and will now continue his service to the members of this Local as a Trustee on our Executive Board.
He first joined Local 174 in 1986, when he worked in the building materials industry. He then became a mixer driver at CalPortland in 1994. He has spent the last 11 years representing his coworkers as a Shop Steward, has served on five sand & gravel negotiating committees, and was instrumental in organizing and winning the 8-day strike at CalPortland in August of 2017. He spent countless hours on picket lines as a Picket Captain, and did numerous on-camera news interviews to help his brothers and sisters in the fight for a fair contract.
Hislop has been a very active member of Local 174. He was a delegate to the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Convention in 2011, and was a Sergeant at Arms at the IBT Convention in 2016. He also volunteered to serve on the most recent Local 174 Bylaws Committee. He has participated in multiple community actions and political projects with Local 174, and is excited to now be a member of the Executive Board.
“Mark Hislop has shown time and time again that he is a team player and a strong Teamster, and we are lucky to have him on our Executive Board,” said Teamsters Local 174 Secretary-Treasurer Rick Hicks. “His decades of experience and deep commitment to the members of Local 174 will serve him well, and his presence gives the members of Local 174 another strong voice on the Executive Board.”
