Group of Pepsi Warehouse Workers Win Four-Year Agreement
On a sunny Saturday afternoon meeting, a group of 26 workers who warehouse Pepsi products voted to ratify a strong new four-year agreement after months of negotiation. This new agreement makes important improvements that will directly benefit the Pepsi workers, beginning immediately.
Language improvements in the agreement will strengthen the grievance procedure, provide additional sick leave, enhance work place safety provisions. and provide for greater work schedule protections. Importantly, it also dramatically increases premium pay for holidays, rewarding Teamsters for the overtime hours they frequently work the day prior to holidays. Additionally, the economic package in the contract is record-setting, with pension increases that outpace the prior two contracts combined, and greater wage increases than the group has received in decades. On top of that, the group achieved significant health and welfare protections that will ensure that wage increases stay in the member’s pockets.
“This Pepsi agreement was already a mature contract with strong language to protect workers on the job, but this new agreement still manages to build on and improve that,” said Teamsters Local 174 Secretary-Treasurer Rick Hicks. “That, along with the record-setting pension and wage increases and extremely lucrative premium pay for holidays, make this Pepsi agreement a major victory for Local 174 members.”
