Boeing team winners, including Grand Champion Gary Herrygers (center)

Proving once again that the best drivers are Teamster drivers, members of Teamsters Local 174 won several awards — including Grand Champion — at this year’s Washington Truck Driving Championship, held last weekend. Grand champion Gary Herrygers is a Local 174 member at The Boeing Company. Other Local 174 members who placed at the event came from Boeing, Reddaway, Oak Harbor Freight Lines, and Peninsula Truck Lines.

The trucking championship features all different types of trucks, from smaller delivery-style box trucks to 5-axle tractor trailers, and everything in between. Drivers are tested on various skills, and their smoothness in operating the big rigs. The driver who scores the most points is declared the overall winner — a title that went to Gary Herrygers this year.

“We are proud of our members for demonstrating yet again that they put the ‘professional’ in ‘professional driver,’” said Teamsters Local 174 Secretary-Treasurer Rick Hicks. “We hope to put on an even better performance next year!”

Founded in 1909, Teamsters Local 174 represents 8,100 working men and women in the Seattle area. “Like” us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/TeamstersLocal174.
