Agreement averts strike after months of battling over healthcare costs
A group of 13 CDL delivery drivers at cookie-and-snack manufacturer Mondelez ratified a contract this weekend after months of stalled negotiations and a strike vote. The contract contains more economic improvements than any previous Mondelez contract, including meaningful wage increases, pension increases, and most importantly for this group, healthcare increases that will continue to cover all costs for members and their families.
In addition to continuing to fully cover healthcare, the contract gives substantial raises that are retroactive to May 1, and brings all current drivers up to the top rate. There are also major improvements to vacations, premium pay for training, and larger pension increases than the group has ever seen.
“This contract is a triumph for the workers at Mondelez, who have historically struggled to keep pace with CDL drivers in other industries,” said Teamsters Local 174 Secretary-Treasurer Rick Hicks. “As companies compete to hire and retain drivers, the dramatic improvements to all major aspects of this new contract will make Mondelez a far more appealing place to work. Winning this strong Agreement took tenacity and patience, and our members displayed both. We are proud to deliver this contract, and our members at Mondelez were proud to ratify it.”
