Drivers and Plant workers achieve major gains in three-year Agreement

A group of 31 workers at one of the most challenging jobs in the Teamsters Local 174 jurisdiction successfully ratified a contract to protect and reward them for the necessary work they perform. The workgroup, which includes CDL drivers who transport cooking grease from restaurants and also plant workers who operate a rendering plant in Tukwila, achieved a contract with major improvements in wages and pension, along with additional improvements in healthcare and working conditions. The contract ratified overwhelmingly.

“This contract is a massive and well-deserved victory for these workers, who deserve to work and then retire with dignity,” said Teamsters Local 174 Secretary-Treasurer Rick Hicks. “We are proud of the workgroup for standing together, and we also appreciate the Employer for coming to the table committed to negotiating a fair contract for their employees. When both sides work together in a spirit of collaboration, we can hash out our issues quickly and achieve remarkable results that will benefit everyone involved. Congratulations to our members at Baker Commodities for this victory, that once again will change lives for the better.”
